Obscura sees the lens before it sees you.

In IPX1031's 2025 vacation-rental survey of more than 1,000 Americans, 64% said they don't know how to check a rental for hidden cameras. Obscura gives you a 30-second room check you can do the moment you walk in: hotels, Airbnbs, changing rooms, your car.

Two ways to find what's hidden

  • Red lens finder: look through the filter and camera lenses reflect back as a bright red dot, even when the camera is off or wired.
  • RF signal scan (1 MHz – 6.5 GHz): the LED bars rise as you get closer to devices that transmit, like Wi-Fi/Bluetooth cameras, bugs and SIM GPS trackers.
  • Vibration alarm: hang it on the door handle at night; it sounds if someone tries to open the door.
  • 5 sensitivity levels · rechargeable · pocket-size (94 mm).

How to check a room in 30 seconds

  1. Dim the lights and sweep with the red lens finder: smoke detectors, clocks, chargers, TVs, anything pointing at the bed or shower.
  2. Switch to RF mode, lower the sensitivity, and move slowly. A signal that climbs near something that shouldn't transmit? Look closer.

FAQ

Will it find every hidden camera?
No detector can promise that. The lens finder spots camera lenses even when they're off; RF mode catches cameras and trackers that are transmitting. Using both gives you the best check.

Why does it beep near my phone or the Wi-Fi router?
They transmit too. Lower the sensitivity and focus on objects that shouldn't be sending a signal.

Why didn't it pick up a GPS tracker right away?
Many trackers only transmit in short bursts to save battery. Hold Obscura still near the spot you suspect for a few minutes before moving on.

Why not just use a free phone app?
Phone apps rely on your phone's magnetometer or camera and miss most small cameras. Obscura scans radio signals from 1 MHz to 6.5 GHz and has a dedicated red lens finder for cameras that aren't transmitting.

Is it legal?
Yes. Checking your own room or car for hidden devices is legal in the USA.

Charge for 2 hours before first use (shipped with low battery for air safety).
